The Pomodoro technique is a tool for time management developed in the 1980s. It’s great for helping you focus on your work and get things done. It involves using a timer to break up your work into 25-minute chunks, followed by 5-minute breaks. This gives you an opportunity to rest your brain and recharge before diving back into work again. I’ve been using the Pomodoro technique for years now, and it’s one of my favourite ways to get through my day without feeling overwhelmed by everything that needs doing!
What is the Pomodoro technique?
The Pomodoro technique is a time management method that helps you focus on one task at a time and stay productive.
This might sound too easy to be effective but it works because it forces you to concentrate on what matters most while avoiding distractions like social media or email notifications (at least for those 25 minutes).
How to do the Pomodoro technique
Set a timer for 25 minutes. This will be the length of your work session and the time you’ll strive to stay focused for.
Work on a single task during that time. The goal is to avoid multitasking (and the constant switching between different tasks that comes with it). If you do have multiple items on your plate, try finishing one before moving onto another one at the end of each pomodoro block.
Take a 5 minute break once every four rounds (or after every second round if you’re feeling especially energetic). Use this time to stretch or walk around rather than checking social media again!
Why you should be using the Pomodoro technique
Using the Pomodoro technique you’ll be able to focus on one task without distractions and distractions won’t eat up your valuable time. In fact, the Pomodoro timer itself will help you avoid distractions by setting a strict time limit for each task. This helps you prioritise tasks based on their importance (rather than how urgent they may seem.)
The human brain craves novelty, but it also thrives on routine—especially when it comes to how we spend our days at work. By using the Pomodoro technique, we can create a sense of stability and calmness in our daily lives that will make us feel good about what we’re doing every day!
Pomodoro timers are available online and can be used on your phone or tablet so you can stay focused while working anywhere!
